Commissioned by Nudge Community Builders, Awakening brought the long-dormant Millennium Building back to life through performance, light, and film. The Hundred Hands documented the event, blending cinematic visuals with interviews from the Nudge team to capture both the atmosphere of the night and the vision driving the project.
Objective
To illuminate the Millennium’s history and potential, reconnecting it with the community through visual storytelling. The aim was not only to record the event but also to share the voices of those working to restore the building as a cultural hub.
Challenge
The Millennium had been empty for years, with raw, decayed spaces and difficult lighting. We needed to find beauty in its worn textures while showcasing it as a stage for light, movement, and community energy. Capturing interviews on-site required balancing atmosphere with clarity, ensuring the people behind the project could speak directly to their city.
Result
The finished film wove together performance, projection, and the words of the Nudge team, presenting the Millennium as both a relic of Plymouth’s past and a beacon of its cultural future. Shown as part of the Awakening event on 11 November 2023, the work has since helped Nudge communicate their vision and reintroduce the building as a space of possibility.
