Intro
We Tell Your Story is a documentary series highlighting the work of Plymouth-based community organisations. Funded by the Plymouth Octopus Project, the docuseries was directed and produced by The Hundred Hands and culminated in a major feature that premiered at Plymouth Arts Cinema in June 2024.
Objective
The project aimed to showcase Plymouth’s incredible charity sector. The Hundred Hands approached eight different community/non-profit organisations and asked to make a personalised documentary at no cost to them, with the view that it would help them increase their reach.
Challenge
The production of the docuseries spanned two years and involved numerous local creators. The main challenge lay in coordinating such a large-scale community project. We worked with over 70 interviewees and wanted to ensure we included as many perspectives as possible whilst maintaining a clear narrative for each organisation. To this end, filming centered around capturing community events, showcasing the spirit of each organisation and getting to the heart of their work.
Result
The final output included a 36-minute feature documentary alongside individual films, which premiered to a full house at the Plymouth Arts Cinema. The following organisations were celebrated and recognised at the event:
Plymouth’s Artists Together (community group)
The Bread and Roses (community interest company)
Mindful Art Club (community interest company)
Plymouth Scrapstore (non-profit organisation)
Routeways (charity)
Creative Curiosities (community interest company)
The Tree Project (community interest company)
Nudge Community Builders (community benefit company)
The documentary featured founder stories and tales of social impact as well as guest interviews from local MPs and councillors, including Luke Pollard (Plymouth MP), Terri Beer (former mayor) and Ian Poyser (Green Party councillor).
The docuseries provided long-lasting reusable marketing content for the organisations, helping them secure future funding. Having built relationships with both leaders and members, The Hundred Hands has supported many of the organisations listed with subsequent media and marketing guidance.
